Welcome to Fountain Square

Just over a mile south of downtown you’ll find the vibrant Fountain Square neighborhood, designated as one of Indy’s seven cultural districts.

At the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Shelby and Prospect Streets in the heart of Fountain Square you are just steps away from vintage duck pin bowling alleys, live music and theater venues, breweries, and a large variety of restaurants ranging from Cajun, Peruvian, Mexican, Thai, Greek, and much more. The Murphy Art Center (a re-purposed 5 and 10 cent store) takes up the better part of a city block, and provides studio space for artists, as well as gallery shows and other events. Many local artists live in the Wheeler Arts Community a few blocks away, a renovated carburetor factory that has its own gallery space for residents. For those seeking live performances, catch cutting-edge music at Radio Radio, burlesque theater at White Rabbit Cabaret, swing dance at Fountain Square Theatre, and seasonal outdoor music festivals at the public plaza.

If you can’t find enough quality restaurants and bars in Fountain Square to suit your taste, neighboring Fletcher Place features several award-winning food and drink that have received both local and national recognition. The Indianapolis Cultural Trail links Fountain Square to downtown and other cultural districts in the city.
