Welcome to Downtown Indy
Do you work in the downtown area, or visit it regularly? There are plenty of reasons you might want to live downtown, too. In addition to the standard nightlife and restaurants that you’ll find in the hub of many other cities, Indianapolis has Colts football, Pacers NBA games, and minor league baseball all within its downtown region. Other benefits to downtown living are the attractive canal walk and Cultural Trail, and events, festivals, and concerts at White River State Park and Military Park.
The Wholesale District encompasses the epicenter of the city, and offers a number of choices for downtown living.
East of downtown includes:
• The Cole-Noble neighborhood, home to local favorites Easley Winery (with outdoor seating, tours, and live music) and Sun King Brewery (with a tasting room, keg and growler sales, and a calendar full of events).
• Market East, offering brand-new condos and apartments right by City Market and the City-County building.
• Lockerbie Square is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, with an eclectic mix of historic single-family homes and newer lofts and condos.
• Chatham Arch and Massachusetts Avenue is a center for music, theater, shopping, and nightlife that attracts younger professionals.
South/Southwest of Downtown
The Old Southside neighborhood is home to both long-time Indy favorite Shapiro’s deli, and Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.
Living along the Canal near White River State Park and Military Park puts you near the center of a variety museum events and attractions, live concerts, and a number of popular events throughout the year.
Past the Indianapolis Zoo on Washington Street you’ll find an emerging area in the Riverside region known as 16 Tech technology park. 16 Tech is aimed at attracting research firms, life science companies, and high-tech companies. Here you’ll find an apartment complex designed around the 1930s-vintage Bush Stadium, the former home of the Indianapolis Indians AAA baseball team.
West
If a single-family home and a yard are part of your dream, Hawthorne is a quiet residential area near the Stutz building. It’s easy to hop on the nearby Indiana University Health “people mover” rail system for easy access between IUPUI, Methodist Hospital, Indiana University School of Medicine, and Riley Hospital for Children.
North
If living in a large vintage home appeals to you, you’ll want to take a look at the Old Northside or the Herron-Morton neighborhoods.
